Ambi Subramaniam
(Carnatic Violin)
Hailed as
“India’s Itzhak Pearlmann” by Ozy Magazine, Ambi
Subramaniam has been trained by his father and
guru Dr. L. Subramaniam since he was three years
old, and gave his first performance at the age
of seven. He has received the Ritz Icon of the
Year Award, the Rotary Youth Award, two GiMAs
(Global Indian Music Award for Best Fusion Album
and Best Carnatic Instrumental Album) and Big
Indian Music Award (for Best Carnatic Album). He
received a ‘Golden Violin’ from Sri Jayendra
Saraswati when he was 18.
Along with his sister Bindu Subramaniam, he runs
SaPa – the Subramaniam Academy of Performing
Arts – which trains young children to grow into
performing musicians. He also runs the SaPa in
Schools program, which helps children develop
21st century skills using music as a gateway. So
far, the program impacts over 30,000 children a
year.
Ambi plays as part of contemporary world music
band SubraMania, which he formed with Bindu. He
has performed extensively with his family and
collaborated with Larry Coryell, Ernie Watts,
Corky Siegel and Shankar Mahadevan. Ambi was a
featured soloist at the Violins for Peace
concert series which featured Mark O’ Connor,
Loyko and others. He also plays as part of the
Thayir Sadam Project, a Carnatic fusion
collective he formed with Bindu Subramaniam,
Mahesh Raghvan, and percussionist Akshay
Anantapadmanabhan.
He co-hosts the SaPa Show on Sankara TV, which
teaches Indian music to children from the
comfort of their homes. The program is broadcast
to millions of viewers across the world.
Ambi is a youth delegate at the United Nations
for the Sri Chinmoy Peace Meditation group. He
has a bachelor’s degree in business management,
an MBA, and a Ph.D.

Abhisek
Lahiri (Sarod)
Abhisek
Lahiri started performing in public at an early
age of eleven and got his first break in the
national level in 1997 when he was invited by
Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia to play at "Saath
Saath Festival". That year he also gave his
debut performance abroad in Holland at the
"World Kinder Festival" where he was named as an
"Wonder Kid". He has performed extensively
through Europe, U.K., U.S.A., Canada, Africa,
Sri Lanka, Japan, Singapore and Bangladesh
apart from India. He and his father Pandit Alok
Lahiri were the first Indians at the EUROPE
PARLIAMENT in France, Cannes World Music
Festival as well as in Canada Culture Days in
Toronto.
Abhisek
has created an amalgamation with the Japanese
Guitarist Hideaki Tsuji and his group Ionah
which represents world music and has received
worldwide recognition. He was twice nominated
for the GiMA Awards in Best Classical
Instrumental CD album of India for his album
"Sparkling Sarod" and later, his album "Mood of
Puriya Kalyan", respectively. Abhisek’s
awards include a National Scholarship for
outstanding performance in Sarod, from the
Ministry of Human Resources &
Development and Tourism & Culture, Govt of
India, New Delhi Anun Lund Rej Memorial Award
from the Norwegian Consulate,President’s Award
in Sarod through All India Radio Music
competition, Rashtriya Gaurav Award from New
Delhi and the Sangit Visarad & Sangeet
Ratnakar from Sarbabharatiya Sangit of Sanskriti
Parishad.
Subrata
Bhatacharya (Tabla)
A
Tabla player of note on the Indian classical
music scene, Subrata’s talent and
achievements in the field of percussion
music have made him one of the leading Tabla
players in India today, and a worthy
exponent of the Farukhabad Gharana. He
trained under Shri Tamal Krishna Chatterjee,
Shri Nripen Karmakar and Shri Tapan Kr.
Banerjee before he was finally accepted as a
pupil of Tabla maestro Pt.
Shankar Ghosh. All his teachers honed his
talent to the level of refinement now
witnessed by audiences everywhere.
He has accompanied some of the most renowned
classical musicians, including Pt. Vishwa
Mohan Bhatt, Dr. L. Subramaniam, Dr.N.Rajam,
Pt. Buddhaditya Mukherjee, Ustad Shahid
Parvez Khan, Ustad Ali Ahmed Hussain, Pt.
Tarun Bhattacharya, Pt. Ronu Majumdar,
Chitraveena Ravikiran, and Pt.Tejendra
Narayan Majumdar, Pt. Samaresh Chaudhury. He
has to his credit numerous performances at
some of the most prestigious venues in India
and abroad. Subrata has performed in the
USA, the Middle East, and Europe, as well as
at prestigious festivals and venues in
India, such as Sparsh, Lucknow, the National
Center for Performing Arts, Mumbai, and the
India International Center, Delhi, to name a
few.
Subrata has been a visiting professor at the
Universty of Urbana Champaign, IL. He
founded "Naad- The Everlasting Sound", a
group experimenting with fusion music.
Subrata has also been a part of the Chicago
based Indo -Jazz band Flat Earth Ensemble
since its inception.

Anantapadmanabhan (Mridangam)
Akshay
Anantapadmanabhan is a reputed and sought
after mridangam artiste. A senior disciple
of Sangita Kala Acharya Sri. T.H. Subash
Chandran, Akshay has performed with most of
the leading names
of Carnatic music. He has also given
collaborative performances with Hindustani,
Latin jazz, American jazz and rock musicians
in unique showcases of South Indian
percussion. His latest solo
production: ‘Re-imagining Indian Rhythms’
pushes the boundaries of Indian rhythms
bringing together the mridangam, kanjira,
konnakol and bharathanatyam with digital
loopers and visual graphics.
Akshay is also a core member of the viral
Indian Classical fusion bands ‘The Thayir
Sadam Project’ and ‘Carnatic 2.0 Reloaded.’
He has also published several academic
papers on the mridangam and Indian rhythms
in international music technology journals.
He continues to work on research
collaborations on generative approaches of
Carnatic rhythms with NYU Abu Dhabi.
Akshay is the recipient of many awards
including recognition for his latest
discovery of the "spotless mridangam", the
‘Best Mridangist’ award from the Music
Academy Madras, Maharajapuram Youth
Excellence Award, C.S. Murugaboopathy award
from Krishna Gana Sabha, 2015 North America
Young Musician Award and many others. He is
also an educator of Carnatic percussion,
teaching both
classical and multi-genre musicians.
