About the Artists

Gayatri Venkataraghavan
(Carnatic Vocal)


Smt. Gayathri Venkataraghavan began her training in carnatic music at a young age under the tutelage of Smt.Rajalakshmi. She then learned from Smt. Padma Veeraraghavan, a disciple of Palaghat Sri.K.V.Narayanaswamy. She was also trained in various kritis by Smt.Rukmini Ramani, Sri.V.Subramaniam and Smt.Lakshmi Natarajan. Her advanced training was under Acharya Choodamani, the Late Sri.A.Sundaresan. He was an outstanding musician and a dedicated guru. He was a disciple of Sri.C.V.Krishnamurthy Iyer, Sri.Ramnad Krishnan and Alathur Sri.Sivasubramanya Iyer. She is presently under the guidance of Sri. P.S.Narayanaswamy, the torch bearer of the Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer tradition.


At a young age, as Gayathri Ramani, she won a number of prizes in inter-school and Inter-collegiate competitions as well as at competitions held by Music Academy and other sabhas including Indian Fine Arts Society, Mylapore Fine Arts and Saraswathi Vageeyakara Trust.
Gayathri Venkataraghavan is an ‘A TOP’ grade accredited artiste of All India Radio. She won the All India Radio National level competition in 1993. Her regular performances for the AIR include a prestigious National Broadcast in 2006. She has sung various themes for AIR’s archival purposes as well. She has performed for

Doordarshan national and regional telecasts, and for various other television channels.


Gayathri had the honour of anchoring a Doordarshan documentary, Engum Nirai Nada Bhrahmam, a tribute to Smt. M.S.Subbulakshmi; the immortal icon of carnatic music. The concert prizes that she has won by the Grace of Almighty at the Music Academy conference, include the 2001 D.K.Pattammal award for Lady vocalist, the 2002 T.T.Rangaswamy award, the 2003 and 2004 H.Natarajan Prize, the 2006 Pappu Kamakshi Award and the award for Swara singing during the 2007 season.

She is also the recipient of many other prestigious awards including the Kalki Krishnamoorthy award, the Nada Oli title by Nada Inbam, the CMANA award instituted by The Carnatic Music Association of North America, the Dr.MLV Endowment by Narada Gana Sabha, the Bharath Ratna M.S.Subhulakshmi award given by Artists Federation, Chennai, the Shanmuka Sangita Shironmani title by Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts and Sangeetha Sabha, Mumbai and the Isai Peroli title by The Karthik Fine Arts Chennai.
 
She has been performing regularly at various centres in India as well as venues in USA, Cananda, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Muscat.


Mysore Srikanth (Violin)

Mysore Srikanth, a disciple of Vidwan H.K. Narasimhamurthy of Mysore, follows the 'Parur style' of fingering. He started learning Violin at a very young age and has undergone rigorous training for more than twenty years.

Srikanth has been giving performances since he was fifteen years old. He has gained rich experience by accompanying top Artists like R.K.Srikantan, Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna, T.N.Seshagopalan, T.V.Sankaranarayanan, O.S.Thiagarajan, Trichur Ramachandran, Hyderabad Brothers, Yesudas, K.S.Gopalakrishnan, Rudrapatnam Brothers, Gayathri Venkataraghavan, Bombay Sisters, Sudha Raghunathan & others and received their blessings and appreciation.

He has performed with great Mridangam stalwarts like Palghat Sri Raghu, T.K.Murthy, Guru Karaikkudi Mani, Guruvayur Dorai, Vellore Ramabhadran, Umayalpuram Sivaraman, Tiruvarur Bhaktavatsalam, SrimushnamRajarao and many others. Srikanth has been featured in several prestigious Music Sabhas & Organizations throughout the country.

Srikanth, graded artist of AIR & Doordarshan, performs regularly for All India Radio, Doordarshan and other T.V. Channels. He has also performed for National Program of Music of Doordarshan. & All India Radio.He has recorded many commercial CDs & cassettes with many great artists.  He has won a number of prizes, accolades and appreciation from rasikas and critics. He is a recipient of Cultural Talent Search Scholarship of Government of India and has achieved Distinction in the Senior Grade Music Examination.

Srikanth has been conferred with the title "Kala Praveen" in Feb 2002 at Bangalore. He has been honored with the prestigious Award for talented young Musicians----"Ananya Yuva Puraskar" for 2004 by the organization "Ananya" of Bangalore. Srikanth is now regularly performing with many great artists & undergoing intensive training in the intricacies of Violin playing and looking forward for Great achievement in the field of Music. Srikanth has traveled abroad widely to U. S. A., Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Singapore, Qatar, U.K., Canada and many European countries.

B Ganapathyraman (Mridangam)

Sri B. Ganapathyraman, a well-known name in the carnatic music circles, hails from a prestigious lineage of musicians. He inherits his music from his father Sedhalapathi Sri R. Balasubramanian, fondly adored as “Balu Mama” among the musicians and connoisseurs of music.

A child prodigy in laya, he took to mridangam play when he was barely 7 years old. Seeing his natural inclination to laya even when he was 3 years old, veteran mridangist Srimushnam Sri. V. Raja Rao initiated him into Mridangam play and blessed him by gifting a Mridangam.  He had the fortune of learning under Nagai Sri Soundararajan. Later he was put under the able tutelage of ”Laya Vadhya Kovida”, “Laya Pithamaha” Kumbakonam Sri. Rajappa Iyer and Srirangarajapuram Sri Jayaraman.

Listing the great stalwarts, he has accompanied speaks volumes about his calibre and this list goes as follows : Sri. T. M. Thiyagarajan, Sri. D. K. Jayaraman, Madurai Sri Somasundaram, Palaghat Sri K. V. Narayanaswamy, Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, Sri. T. K. Govinda Rao, Lalgudi Sri G. Jayaraman, Sri P. S. Narayanasamy, Chengalpattu Sri. Ranganathan, Anayampatti Sri Ganesan, Sri M. S. Gopalakrishnan, Sri. M. Chandrasekaran, Sri. T. V. Sankara Narayanan, Madurai Sri T. N. Seshagopalan Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan Unnikrishnan Sanjay Subramanian.  He has also accompanied senior musicians like Smt. R.Vedavalli, Bombay Sisters, Smt. Parasala Ponnamma, Smt. Suguna Purushottaman Smt.Arunasairam Smt Sudha Raghunathan Smt Bomby Jaysree and many other artists of repute.

Today, he is one of the most sought after Mridangist among the present generation of musicians.  A versatile artist, he had a firm grounding in playing for namasankeerthanam, wherein he has accompanied doyens like Mayavaram Sri. Krisnamurthy Bhagavathar, Srivanchiyam Sri Ramachandra Bhagavathar, Pudkkottai Sri Sanjeevi Bhagavathar with great Mridangam Maestro Mozhaiyur Sri Ramamurthy Iyer, when he was 7 years old.

He has also accompanied senior Harikatha exponent Smt. Kamala Murthy and many others. 
He had the privilege of accompanying Thiruppugazh Mamani Guruji Sri
Raghavan for his Thiruppugazh bhajan for many years.

Awards and Titles :
Asthana Vidwan of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Best Mridangam Artist Award from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Music Academy, Indian Fine Arts, Mylapore Fine Arts, Kalki Award from Kalki, ”Yuva Kala Bharathi” Award from Bharat Kalachar, ”Nadha Oli” from Raga Sudha. Tirupugazh laya semmani from siruvapuri murugan kuzhu .

He has traveled around the globe many times accompanying many artists of repute.


Sunil Kumar (Kanjira)


Sunil Kumar is a multi-talented percussionist who had his initial training from his father thavil vidwan Triplicane K. Sekar.  He has been a senior student of Kanjira Maestro V. Selvaganesh and has been learning Konnakol from Ghatam maestro T.H. Vikku Vinyakaram.  A Mechanical engineer by profession, Sunil Kumar is an ‘A’ Grade artist in All India Radio, Chennai.

He has been accompanied with many stalwarts like  Sri A.K.C. Natrajan, Prof T.N Krishnan , Sri Dr T.V Gopalakrishnan, Sri T.H. Vikku Vinayakaram, Sri Guruvayur Dorai and senior Artists like Padmashri Kum A. Kanyakumari, Sri Sanjay Subramaniam, Vidushi Smt Bombay Jayashri, and Vidushi Smt Sudha Ragunathan.

Sunil has won the 1st prize in many National level cultural competitions and in solo performances organized by Anna University and other colleges. He regularly supports leading artists in Sabhas like Krishna Gana Sabha, the Madras Music Academy, Brahma Gana Sabha etc. He has also given several performances in India & other countries around the world. He has besides played on many Albums, CD’s and TV programs with several leading artists.

Some of his notable awards are:
  • T Harihara Sharma Percussion Award given by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha during 2011
  • Sri Kanchi kamakoti peetam Asthana Vidhwan on 2013
  • ‘Yuva Kala Bharathi’ given by Bharath Kalachar on 2013
  • Received Dr M.S Subhalakshmi fellowship in the year 2015 given by Mumbai Shanmukhananda Sabha.
