About the Artists:

Kalapini Komkali  

Endowed with a wholly original, melodious and rich voice, Kalapini is well trained and widely recognized as one of the finest classical vocalist of this generation.

She is the daughter and disciple of the legendary Pandit Kumar Gandharv and has also been trained by her illustrious mother Vidushi Vasundhara Komkali. Both these Gurus encouraged her to develop a capacity for tremendous creativity along with the regular grammer and technique of the North Indian Classical Music.

She is a regular performer in all the major musical festivals in India. She has travelled and performed widely in many countries all over the world like Russia, Switzerland, Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Qatar, UAE etc.

She has many commercial releases to her credit. These albums include “Aarambha” and “Inheritance” released by HMV, “Dharohar” by Times Music among others. “Swar Manjari, a live recording was released recently by Virgin Records. Kalapini has also recorded for the sound tracks of the Indian films “Paheli” and Devi Ahilya”.

She has received a fellowship from Department of Culture, Government of India and has been honoured with Kumar Gandharv Award by the prestigious Pujari Pratishtan of Pune.

Sanjay Deshpande


Sanjay is a leading Tabla Player of the young generation from Pune, particularly specialized in the field of North Indial Classical Vocal Music accompaniment. He has been fortunate to be a disciple of two great Tabla Maestros, Taalyogi Pandit Suresh Talwalkar and Ustad Alla Rakha Khan Saheb. He has been performing regularly with almost all the top notch vocalists from India which include Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Veena Sahastrabudhe, Kalapini Komkali, Manjiri Asnare, Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar and many more. He has travelled and performed all over the world in many countries like Australia, New Zeland, U.K., Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Sweden, Canada, U.S.A. and Korea.

Raya Korgaokar

Raya is a leading Harmonium Player of the young generation from Goa, particularly specialized in the field of North Indial Classical Vocal Music accompaniment. He has received training from Guru’s like Late Laxman Mandrekar, Pandit Mahdav Ghatval and Late Nirmal Pai Kakode.  He is performing regularly with almost all the top notch Vocalist from India which include Padmbhushan Kishori Amonkar, Pandit Ajay Chakraborty,  Dr. Prabha Atre, Pandit Vyanktesh Kumar, Pandit Raghunandan Panshikar, Dr. Ram Deshpande, Pandit Vinayak Toravi and many others. He has performed extensively in all over India in all major music festivals.

The Recital Hall is located just behind the O’Shaughnessy Auditorium  in the campus of St. Catherine University (2004 Randolph Ave, Saint Paul, MN 55105). The Recital Hall is Building 24 in the campus map (see below).

Driving Directions: 

  • From I-94 going E: Take Cretin Avenue exit. South (right) on Cretin to Randolph Avenue. East (left) on Randolph to Cleveland Avenue intersection. Stay on Randolph. Enter at GATE 3 on Randolph.
  • From I-94 going W: Take Snelling Avenue (US 51) exit. South (left) on Snelling Avenue to Randolph. West (right) on Randoplh to Fairview/Randolph intersection. Stay on Randolph. Enter at GATE 3 on Randolph.
  • From I-35E: Exit on Randolph Avenue. Proceed West to Fairview/Randolph intersection. Stay on Randolph. Enter at GATE 3 on Randolph.
  • From I-35W: Exit on 94 eastbound to Cretin Avenue exit. South on Cretin to Randolph Avenue. East on Randolph to Cleveland Avenue intersection. Stay on Randolph. Enter at GATE 3 on Randolph.

Gate 3 is located between Cleveland and Fairview and is nearest to the intersection of Randolph and Prior Avenues. The Recital Hall is located right behind the better known O'Shaughnessy auditorium. Parking is free after hours and on weekends.
