About the Artistes:
Purbayan Chatterjee started performing from the age of 5 and has had an international career of more than 25 years today. He has learnt Sitar from his father Parthapratim Chatterjee and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He has also trained in vocal music from Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty and in rhythm from Pt. Anindo Chatterjee. Purbayan’s music is inspired by the style of Pt. Nikhil Banerjee of the Senia Maihar Gharana. Purbayan has toured extensively in all the continents of the world in many prestigious festivals and venues. He has developed a sound of his own which embodies the completeness of Pt. Nikhil Banerjee and is enhanced by the contemporary feel of his own sensitivity. Partha Chatterjee learned vocal music from his mother Smt Rama Chatterjee. His father Late Sri Prabir Kumar Chatterjee, a sitar player, gave him his initial lessons in sitar and subsequently took him to the sitar maestro Pt. Nikhil Banerjee. For well over twelve years Partha was privileged to remain under the guidance of this great musician of the Senia Maihar Gharana. After the premature exit of his Guru in 1986, Partha was affectionately offered a place at the feet of the great Ustad Ali Akbar Khanshahib. Partha has established himself as a concert artiste and a teacher engaged in promoting the cause of Indian Raga Music all over the world. He has performed at many of the music festivals in India, South Asia, Europe and the United States. For the last several years he has taught music under the auspices of Saraswati Project, Germany and the Ali Akbar Khan College Of Music, U.S.A as a visiting faculty. Anindo Chatterjee is one of the greatest tabla players of the world. He started studies at the age of five under Ustad Afaq Hussain Khan of Lucknow gharana and then had thirty years of training under the famed Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh. Today, Anindo leads his generation of representatives of the Farrukhabad Gharana. He is respected as one of the most important tabla makers, teachers and researchers apart from being the great performer that he is. Anindo's performances are marked by clarity of tone, very crisp and clear bols and an intutive sense of rhythm and melody. Anindo has performed solo as well as accompanied leading artists all over the world. Anindo's knowledge of various tabla gharanas and their styles knows no bounds. Widely traveled and a prolific recording artist, Anindo is always on tour, and travels across the globe constantly. Anubrata Chatterjee: Born in a musical family in 1985, Anubrata Chatterjee is the gifted son of Smt. Alpana & Pt. Anindo Chatterjee. He has taken tabla training under Guru Jnan Prakash Ghosh, and is currently under the tutelage of his illustrious father, where he is learning the traditional aspect of "Farukhabad" gharana. In 2001, he was ranked 1st in the All India Radio Music Competition and was honored with the President’s award. In 2002, he was awarded the prestigious Padmabhusan Pt. Nikhil Ghosh memorial award by the Music Forum of India. He has toured Europe and the U.S.A, and has already been acknowledged by music lovers around the globe as an extremely talented tabla player. |
