About the artists:

Shubhendra Rao is among the foremost of the new generation of Indian classical instrumentalists. A brilliant disciple of Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, Shubhendra remains a true exemplar of the Maihar Gharana (stylistic tradition). He was initiated into music by his father, Sri N. Rama Rao, himself a veteran sitar player and a senior disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar. Shubhendra has been acknowledged by connoisseurs and critics as a worthy successor to his Guru's tradition. His concerts are noted for their sensitivity, aesthetic appeal and musical insight. An "A" Grade artist of the All India Radio, Shubhendra has had many successful tours outside of India. He is also a fluent speaker and has presented numerous lecture-demonstrations at various educational institutions. His duet concerts and recordings with Partho Sarathy on the Sarod and with his wife Saskia on the Cello, have received wide critical acclaim.

Biplab Bhattacharya is one of the young, rising stars in the world of Indian Classical music. A wonderful young tabla player, Biplab had his initial training of this art from his father Sri Kanai Bhattacharya and has been under the tutelage of Pandit Shankar Ghosh for the past many years. His rare sensitivity as an accompanist has endeared to many wonderful artistes and he has travelled through Europe. This tour would be his debut on the American stage.
